Free True Lemon!

July 21, 2010 Leave a comment

My mom first introduced True Lemon to me a few years ago and I didn’t really like it or understand it much. I ended up with a few free samples and have come to love it! Lately, I’ve been eating it on thinly sliced tomatoes and I seriously cannot get enough!

True Lemon instead of salt.

Walk: 90 Seconds (3.0mph)
Total time: 25 mins
Additional walk: 1 min (2.0pmh)

In the middle of it my treadmill decided to jump up to 10mph. That was a speed that wasn’t for today.

Getting Organized: 2010

June 29, 2010 Leave a comment

So, my new year’s resolution for 2010 was to get organized. In fact, I even made a tag line for it: “2010: the year to get organized”.

Now that SIX WHOLE MONTHS have gone by I haven’t done much more than think about getting organized. I can’t believe that it is already July, but I decided that since my wedding planning is over and it is still summer so I have no classes that now is the time to actually get something done.

A while back, I took advantage of a free Amazon book download of Living Organized: Proven Steps to a Clutter Free and Beautiful Home. I haven’t read it yet because I forgot all about it until I went to download some of those books I mentioned in an earlier post. I’m very excited to start reading it though. I have also been reading a few organization blogs, but I haven’t really delved into much though.

I’m an Organized Junkie has a lot of good information including a getting started post.

Organizing Your Way is also pretty interesting, but I only really read it occasionally.

So, this past week, I got a little bit frustrated with my dining room being the catch-all for our junk and with my craft “room”. I decided that since we don’t really use our dining room for “dining” and I usually do my crafting in the dining room, why not make the space more useful?

We have a “floating” cutting board/island that was in a cabinet in the craft room. We moved it out and into the dining room to use the cabinet space in it for some of the appliances we received from the wedding. I then decided to get a shelving unit to organize my craft stuff in that would still look presentable when we have guests over. I also cleared all the junk off the table (it moved to other tables, but I’ll tackle it another time) and washed the table cloth. We also had a lot of gift bags left over from the wedding that were still in a corner in there that I moved (but still haven’t found a home for).

The only non-dining room things that are still in there are goodwill items that I need to take on my next trip. I also bought some clearance fabric from Joann’s today that is red, white and blue that I will throw over the table for the 4th of July. There is a really pretty antique looking buffet at the Salvation Army store that I’m thinking about getting for in there as well.

These are the shelves that I bought from Target. They were on sale for 39 dollars. It was a little bit more than I wanted to spend for the cheap-ish quality of them, but I really wanted to get it done and there wasn’t anything at the Salvation Army Store that would fit what I wanted. I was originally looking for something taller with a couple of doors on it.

The shelving has those baskets (kind of like the pink one on the top) that can go in the squares and be pulled out. They were 11 dollars for 2! That was totally not something I was going to pay for them, so I decided to go through my house and re-purpose some things to be used instead. I have a lot of crystal-type bowls around and lots of mason jars. I decided to use some of those to organize small things. I also used a leather purse from my trip to Italy that has been sitting in my closet to organize my circular knitting needles that don’t have a home. I am planning on covering the shoe box and the oatmeal container with some pretty scrapbooking paper so that they look a little nicer.

Honestly, the nicest thing is knowing where a pad of paper and a pen is without having to search all over God’s green earth to find them. I have been a disorganized, cluttered person for my entire life and it really was such a joy just to go get a pen from it’s own home. It is the motivation I need to tackle other parts of the house.

Free cooking e-books

June 27, 2010 Leave a comment

Recipe Lion has a few free cooking e-books available right now. They have 29 Tasty, Easy Breakfast Recipes which has several waffle recipes I am going to try out on our new waffle maker! It works out perfectly because I was going to make waffles in the morning anyway!

They also have 33 Top Secret Copycat Restaurant Recipes which looks pretty promising also! One of the recipes is Red Lobster’s Cheddar Bay biscuits which I can’t wait to try out! I think if they’re good I’ll have a hard time keeping myself from eating them until I puke.

Thanks to Money Saving Mom for posting these!

She also has lots of other free e-books linked on her site. I’m not sure how many are still available, but it might be worth checking out!

When I clicked on an Amazon link from her site, I found several other e-books that they have that are free. They are download for the Kindle but you can go here and download a free application that allows you to read Kindle books on your PC.

Signing up for freebies

June 22, 2010 Leave a comment

I’ve always been hesitant to sign up for freebies online because I didn’t want to give out my address and get a bunch of junk in the mail that I just have to throw away.

A few of the blogs that I read frequently post freebies and a few months ago, I decided to try it. The last several weeks, I’ve been getting 2-3 free things in the mail per week and it is kind of fun! I haven’t noticed getting any additional junk mail, which is the main thing I was afraid of.

This week I received:

A pedometer that I had completely forgotten about
A full sized Special K bar
A coupon for a free half gallon carton of Almond Breeze Milk
A sample of Pampers Easy Ups that came with some stickers (and coupons)

Actually, almost everything that comes free usually comes with a coupon of some sort for the product.

This month, I’ve also gotten a coupon for a free bottle of Tropicana orange juice, a free Gillette ProGlide razor, several free diapers, and a lot of one time use sample of lotions and shampoos.

I am saving the baby stuff for my sister-in-law who is pregnant and the Easy Ups I am actually going to give to a gal at work who is potty training right now.

Now, signing up for freebies seemed like a lot of work to me still–even after getting a bunch of free things in the mail–because I still had to type in all of my information every time I wanted to sign up for one. Just a couple of weeks ago, I read Money Saving Mom’s post about how to sign up for freebies and she mentioned saving time doing it by using a form filler! I practically slapped myself on the forehead because I should have thought about that.

She mentions both Robo Form and Form Filler but for some reason Form Filler wouldn’t work for me, so I downloaded Robo Form. So far, it seems to be working out okay. I need to finish filling in my personal information so that I can just click a button and have it all filled out for me. The nice thing about it is that you set up a “master password” and you need to put that in before it puts in your personal information. You can also set up the master password to password protect your whole computer. Now the first time I go to sign into a site I use frequently, I pop-up box will come up for me to put in the master password. You only have to do this the first time you go to log into something unless you have been idle for a certain amount of time.

Hopefully, this gives you some good information about signing up for freebies and help you cut down on having to buy some things you use quite often.

I put all my travel/sample sized freebies in a small box under my bathroom sink and it is available for me if I go out of town or have guests over who forget something.
